Call For Regular Contributions (January 2016)

We want to expand our team with two regular contributors. If you’d like to be part of the OntoGeek squad, read on and send us your application!

Since 2010, The Ontological Geek has been bringing you articles that take a look at deeper significance of games and popular culture. We’ve always operated on a voluntary basis, but since September 2015, we’ve decided to try to raise an income and invest in our writers. This call is part of expanding that new approach.

What we’re looking for in a writer:

  • Sharp insight into the significance of pop culture and games, and their relation to other art forms
  • A writing voice that balances the accessible and the analytic/academic
  • An interest in a diverse scala of works: mainstream, experimental, independent
  • The ability to regularly contribute: one feature piece (1,500 words and over) once every two months, or one featurette or squib piece (750 to 1,000 words) per month

What we can offer:

  • An experienced team of editors
  • Payment of a fixed share of our Patreon income: an equal share of the writers’ proceeds every other month.1
  • A nice network of befriended writers, ex-staff members, and readers

If you’re interested, please send a short motivation, a few ideas of the type of pieces you’d like to contribute, and a couple of writing samples to editor@ontologicalgeek.com before February 1st 2016.

  1. At our current pledge level, this works out to 42.5% for a feature article, or 21.25% for a featurette/squib, which is ~$25 and ~$12.50, respectively. [↩]
